In Mexico City, a vibrant city with layers of history, lies the Novotel Centro Histórico, which will be opening its doors to travelers from around the world, inviting them to be part of the country's story.

The building is located in a prime area, on 20 de Noviembre Street, just a few blocks from the Zócalo and the Cathedral, in the heart of the city. The corner where the building stands allows from the upper floors, amazing and unique views of the city's iconic landmarks.  This building was restructured after the 2017 earthquake, aiming to integrate it into its surroundings and giving it new life.

Part of our work involves discovering the purpose of its areas by focusing on the user, identifying and highlighting the potential that already exists.

"The Bellybutton of the Moon" is the conceptual solution to the project's premises, integrating the existing building, its context, and its potential with the concept in a coherent manner. This emphasizing the brand’s values: timeless and modern, with a user-centered approach.

We were inspired by the city’s aquatic nature and the system of chinampas and canals to approach the modular design through a narrative that draws from the site's history where Novotel is located. It serves as a starting point for a metaphor that speaks about a connection the center creates between all the people who inhabit (or visit) the city.
